TEKTUM from Romania have shared with us their Brick House project located near Cluj.

The emplacement is situated in a very quiet area in ClujNapoca, Transylvania, Romania, dominated by family houses. The preponderant height of the area’s buildings is ground floor, or ground floor and first floor.

The building site has a north-southern position with access from north. The big surface of the building site offered us the possibility to conceive a building with partial basement, ground floor and a small gallery on the first floor. From a planimetric point of view the house has a U form. The lateral trames close a small interior garden and the entrance to the building. The rooms are placed on the sides: on the eastern side the children’s rooms with related bathroom and on the western side the matrimonial room with dressing and bathroom, as well as a carport with a secondary entrance. The two lateral sides close the common area – main entrance with related hall, kitchen, the living room and the gallery. Thus the house is built around a living, facility area, around which the intimate, private family areas levitates. Even more, the matrimonial area is intentionally separated from the children’s space. The kitchen is optimally placed in the south-eastern part of the house. Thus an even more attentive supervision of the children’s activity is possible. The southern part is flanked by a huge terrace accessible from the kitchen, from the living room and from the matrimonial bedroom.

From an esthetic point of view the play of the facade’s plating with manual bricks dominates the whole house. The house has an ascending dynamics through the inclination of the roof’s ridge. The ascendance starts in the eastern side and it has its climax in the gallery area that is closed with a panoramic window. From this point it alights with the ridge, being closed by the fronton. The terrace is laid on oak trunks
