The Spiral Tower by Philipp von Bock
Living in the city definitely has a lower environmental footprint, but families often miss out on having a backyard and a garden. The Spiral Tower, designed by Philipp von Bock, is a family friendly eco tower designed for Berlin. Apartments are stacked in opposite directions in a criss-cross pattern, leaving open spaces for garden terraces. Syph evolves into a collection of organisms with specialized functions like energy generation and sustainable food production that work together to form a new underwater city. Ocean City is just one of many designs in a competition to design Australia’s future as part of the “Now + When Australian Urbanism Exhibition“. Read More »

Ocean levels are rising around the globe, so rather than tethering our buildings to the sinking shoreline why not suit them for a life at sea? That’s the approach behind the Water-Scraper, a futuristic self-sufficient floating city. A special mention in this year’s eVolo Skyscraper Competition, the design expands the concept of a floating island into a full-fledged underwater skyscraper that harvests renewable energy and grows its own food. Vertical Confluence by Jiang Yuan and Xu Yang
‘Vertical Confluence’ is a contemporary skyscraper designed by parisian based architects Jiang Yuan and Xu Yang. Sitting at the brink of a la seine and La Marne river in Paris, this proposed design seeks to integrate the historical urban fabric of these two areas. The tower exercises several principles in order to achieve this goal.
